Erik Riisager Hansen desk
This rare freestanding desk was designed by Erik Riisager Hansen and produced by Haslev Møbelsnedkeri in Denmark during the 1950s. Crafted from rosewood, the desk showcases a deep, rich grain pattern that enhances its refined and elegant aesthetic. Its design is defined by clean lines, tapered legs, and an elegantly framed top with a subtle raised edge.
Erik Riisager Hansen was known for his meticulous attention to detail and high-quality craftsmanship. His work balanced functionalism with sculptural refinement, reflecting the principles of mid-century Scandinavian modernism. Haslev Møbelsnedkeri earned a reputation for finely crafted furniture, often using exotic woods such as rosewood.
The desk features two floating drawer units, each containing three drawers with integrated sculpted handles. The drawers are constructed using dovetail joinery, a testament to precise woodworking techniques. The rear side of the desk is fully finished, allowing it to be placed freely within a room rather than against a wall, emphasizing its freestanding nature. The slightly tapered legs contribute to a light and elegant appearance, while the spacious desktop offers a practical and ample working surface.
The desk measures 160 cm in width, 75 cm in depth, and 71 cm in height (63 x 29.5 x 28 inches). It remains in well-preserved vintage condition, showing minor wear consistent with its age. The combination of rosewood and superior craftsmanship makes this desk a distinguished example of Danish mid-century design.
