Finn Juhl dining chairs
This rare set consists of four chairs, model BO-63, and a pair of armchairs, model BO-72, designed by Finn Juhl and produced by Bovirke in Denmark during the 1950s. Executed in teak with original cognac brown leather upholstery, the set exemplifies Juhl’s approach to sculptural organic forms and sophisticated craftsmanship.
The chairs are defined by their gently curved backrests, which provide both comfort and a distinctive silhouette. The armchairs extend this language further with organically carved arm supports, emphasizing the fluidity of the wood and its tactile qualities. The leather upholstery has aged with a natural patina, presenting variations in tone and texture that reflect the set’s history of use.
Finn Juhl, one of the central figures of Danish modernism, is renowned for introducing a sculptural and expressive dimension to mid century furniture design. His collaboration with Bovirke during the late 1940s and 1950s produced some of his most iconic seating designs, where traditional joinery was combined with bold organic forms. These models demonstrate Juhl’s mastery in balancing lightness of construction with strength and durability.
The set remains in good vintage condition with signs of usage and surface wear consistent with age. The teak frames display a warm, even tone and the leather retains its integrity, though marked with patina that adds character to the pieces.
