Finn Juhl armchairs
This is a rare set of six armchairs, model FD 209, also known as the Diplomat chair, designed by Danish architect and designer Finn Juhl in the 1960s. The chairs were produced by Cado, which became known for high-end Danish furniture. The frames are constructed from solid teak, displaying a warm golden-brown tone and subtle figuring in the grain.
The design features clean, architectural lines combined with soft sculptural elements, such as the rounded armrests and the tapering legs. The seat and backrest are upholstered in the original blue fabric, which is tightly stretched over a gently curved structure, creating a restrained yet comfortable form. These chairs were originally designed as diplomatic seating for Danish embassies and consulates abroad, hence their model name. The style is consistent with Finn Juhl’s signature approach, which emphasized organic forms, separation of structural elements, and an artistic sensitivity to proportions.
The set is in very good original condition with minor signs of wear and patina consistent with age and use.
Dimensions for each chair are 69 cm wide, 65 cm deep, and 81.5 cm high, with a seat height of 44 cm and an armrest height of 60 cm (approximately 27.2 x 25.6 x 32.1 inches, SH: 17.3 inches, AH: 23.6 inches).
