Information

This is a very rare model NV-56 dining table designed by Finn Juhl in the 1950s and produced by master cabinetmaker Niels Vodder in Copenhagen, Denmark. The table is crafted in teak, featuring a rich medium-brown tone with a fine, even grain. Its circular top is surrounded by a subtly raised edge, a refined detail that adds both visual definition and functional practicality. The table rests on four elegantly curved legs, a distinctive Juhl design element that conveys a sense of organic movement while maintaining structural stability. The model is extendable, with two additional leaves allowing it to transform from a compact round table into a long oval form, making it versatile for different seating arrangements.

The condition is good vintage, with signs of usage and a well-developed patina that enhances the depth of the teak. The surface shows light wear consistent with age, while the joinery remains tight and the extension mechanism functions smoothly. The finish retains a warm luster, a testament to the quality of craftsmanship from Niels Vodder’s workshop.

Finn Juhl (1912–1989) was one of Denmark’s most influential designers, recognized for his sculptural approach to furniture and his ability to integrate organic forms into functional objects. His collaboration with Niels Vodder, a cabinetmaker celebrated for his precision and dedication to quality, produced some of the most sought-after pieces in Danish modern design. This partnership was especially known for producing limited numbers of handcrafted furniture, each piece reflecting exceptional attention to detail and material selection.

Stylistically, the NV-56 table exemplifies mid-century Scandinavian design at its highest level—restrained yet expressive, functional yet artful. The combination of the warm teak, the flowing leg profile, and the transformation from round to extended form make it not only a practical dining solution but also a statement of refined craftsmanship.
