Finn Juhl sofa
This rare sofa, model BO-55, was designed by Finn Juhl and produced by Bovirke in Denmark in 1946. It represents one of Juhl’s early explorations of organic form and human-centered design, where sculptural expression meets refined craftsmanship.
The sofa has a compact yet inviting silhouette characterized by soft, flowing lines and a distinctive, undulating backrest that subtly echoes the contours of the human body. The frame rests on elegantly tapered legs in dark-stained beech, providing balance and lift to the upholstered body.
The upholstery is executed in green woven fabric with a rich texture and slight sheen, harmonizing with the warmth of the wooden base. The backrest features delicate button tufting that enhances the curvature and emphasizes the sofa’s handcrafted quality.
Designed in the mid-1940s, the BO-55 model exemplifies Juhl’s departure from strict functionalism toward a more expressive, sculptural language that would define Danish modern design in the following decades. It reflects his mastery of proportion and comfort, where every curve and line contributes to both visual harmony and ergonomic support.
The sofa remains in good vintage condition with minor signs of age and use, preserving its authenticity and character.
