Information

Rare sofa model BO-64 designed by Finn Juhl and produced by Bovirke in Denmark, designed in 1946. This early postwar design reflects Juhl’s sculptural approach to furniture, where organic form and human comfort are integrated into a single fluid composition. The sofa’s softly curved back and armrests create a continuous line that envelops the sitter, emphasizing Juhl’s interest in natural, anthropomorphic shaping.

The piece retains its original wool upholstery in a two-tone combination: a textured grey-beige fabric covering the back and arms, paired with a contrasting green seat cushion. The harmonious color pairing enhances the sculptural silhouette, typical of Juhl’s refined yet playful use of materials and color. The sofa rests on four tapered, dark-stained beech legs that elevate the frame lightly off the ground, balancing mass and visual lightness.

Finn Juhl (1912–1989) was among the leading figures of Danish modern design, renowned for pioneering the organic idiom in furniture. His collaboration with master cabinetmaker Niels Vodder and manufacturers such as Bovirke brought forth some of the most iconic Scandinavian designs of the 20th century. The BO-64 model exemplifies Juhl’s mid-1940s experiments in upholstered form, anticipating his later masterpieces like the Poet sofa.

Good vintage condition with age-related wear and a well-preserved patina consistent with use. Dimensions: width 170 cm (66.9 inches), depth 77 cm (30.3 inches), height 84 cm (33.1 inches), seat height 40 cm (15.7 inches).
