Flemming Lassen easy chairs
This rare pair of easy chairs was designed by Flemming Lassen and produced by cabinetmaker Jacob Kjær in Denmark in the 1940s. The chairs showcase an organic, sculptural form with smoothly curved armrests and a deep, rounded backrest flowing seamlessly into the seat. Comfort and elegance are balanced with refined sophistication.
They are upholstered in the original beige velvet mohair fabric, which has developed a soft patina, enhancing their vintage authenticity. The button-tufted backrest adds a classic Scandinavian touch, while the piping highlights the chair’s fluid contours.
The frames rest on solid ash legs, slightly tapered and angled outward to provide stability and an airy appearance. The craftsmanship reflects Jacob Kjær’s mastery in precision woodworking and quality materials, making these chairs a fine example of Danish cabinetmaking traditions.
Flemming Lassen, a noted Danish architect and designer, was known for blending functionalist ideals with sculptural softness and a focus on comfort. Jacob Kjær was celebrated for his ability to combine traditional woodworking with modern design aesthetics, emphasizing fine woods and premium upholstery.
Each chair measures 73 cm wide, 75 cm deep, and 75 cm high (28.7 x 29.5 x 29.5 inches), with a seat height of 41 cm (16.1 inches). The pair is well-preserved with minor wear consistent with age. A matching sofa is also available, completing the original design ensemble.
