Philips floor lamps
This rare pair of floor lamps was produced by Philips in Sweden during the 1950s, embodying the essence of mid-century Scandinavian design through a sophisticated blend of materials and craftsmanship.
Each lamp features a circular brass base that has developed a warm, natural patina over time, emphasizing its vintage character. The slender column is elegantly wrapped in brown leather, complete with visible stitching, adding tactile richness and refined detail to the structure. A brass mechanism near the top of the column allows for adjustable height, enhancing both functionality and versatility.
The original pleated lampshades are made from a light-colored fabric, designed to softly diffuse light and create a warm, inviting atmosphere. While the shades show signs of use and minor damage, they remain intact and authentic to the period.
Philips, renowned for its lighting and electronics production during the mid-20th century, combined quality materials with functional design in these lamps. Although the specific designer is unknown, the lamps clearly reflect the period’s focus on simplicity, natural materials, and elegant restraint.
The lamps remain in original condition with age-appropriate wear, including a patinated brass base and some surface marks on the leather wrapping. The dimensions for each lamp are 53 cm in diameter and 170 cm in height (20.9 x 66.9 inches).
