Frode Holm dressing table and mirror
This rare dressing table and mirror set was designed by Frode Holm and produced by Illums Bolighus in Denmark during the 1950s. The design showcases the refined craftsmanship and elegant functionality emblematic of mid-century Scandinavian furniture.
The dressing table is crafted from solid mahogany with a curved, wall-mounted floating form that creates a light, airy presence while saving space. It includes two drawers with brass handles and a central compartment with a hinged lid, all framed by softly rounded edges that emphasize the natural warmth and organic flow of the wood.
The matching mirror frame, also in mahogany, features three panels with sculpted inner edges. The side panels are hinged, allowing adjustable angles to enhance usability. The mirror’s proportions and detailing perfectly complement the dressing table, resulting in a harmonious and balanced ensemble.
Frode Holm was a notable Danish designer associated with Illums Bolighus, a prominent furniture retailer and manufacturer in Denmark known for championing Scandinavian modernism. His work is recognized for its use of quality materials, clean lines, and functional precision.
This set exemplifies mid-century Danish design, merging practicality with sculptural beauty. The dressing table measures 110 cm in width, 29 cm in depth, and 17 cm in height (43.3 x 11.4 x 6.7 inches), while the mirror is 86.5 cm wide, 4 cm deep, and 60 cm high (34.1 x 1.6 x 23.6 inches). Both pieces are in good vintage condition, showing minor age-related wear consistent with their period.
