Information

This small side table with integrated smoking accessories was designed by Swedish designer Gunnar Ander and produced by Ystad Metall in the 1950s. Executed in polished brass and black lacquered metal, the piece exemplifies the elegant yet functional aesthetic characteristic of Scandinavian mid-century design. The circular tray top features refined brass details, including an ashtray, a cigarette holder, and a handle for portability, all supported by a slender lacquered stem and a weighted circular base.

Gunnar Ander (1908–1976) was a prolific Swedish designer and architect known for his refined sense of proportion and ability to merge function with decorative precision. His work for Ystad Metall, one of Sweden’s foremost metal manufacturers, helped define the company’s postwar design language—marked by clean lines, subtle ornamentation, and high material quality.

This model reflects Ander’s mastery of material contrast and form, balancing utility and sophistication in a compact design. The table remains in excellent vintage condition with small signs of age and use, preserving the original lacquer and the warm patina of the brass.
