Gunnar Nylund vases
This is a set of seven hand-blown glass vases designed by Gunnar Nylund and produced by Strömbergshyttan in Sweden during the 1950s. Each vase features a slender cylindrical form with a subtly tapering profile toward the top, creating an elongated, elegant silhouette. The glass bodies are clear, with a central colored inclusion in shades of turquoise, amethyst, amber, or pale blue, formed using the sommerso technique. The inner casing appears as a suspended teardrop or capsule shape, creating a striking contrast and depth within the transparent outer layer.
The vases vary slightly in size and form, with the tallest measuring 36 cm in height and approximately 5 cm in diameter (14.17 inches high by 1.97 inches in diameter). All pieces exhibit a refined surface with smooth vertical sides and polished bases. The overall condition is good vintage, showing only small signs of use consistent with age, such as minor surface wear and faint scratches, but no major flaws or damage.
Gunnar Nylund (1904–1997) was a Swedish-Finnish designer renowned for his work in ceramics and glass. Though most associated with his ceramics at Rörstrand, Nylund also created notable glassworks, particularly in collaboration with Strömbergshyttan. His aesthetic often emphasized modernist forms with subtle color modulation and precise craftsmanship, characteristics visible in this set.
Strömbergshyttan, originally part of the Orrefors group, was a Swedish glassworks active under the Strömberg name from the early 1930s until the 1970s. Known for its high-quality crystal and distinctive clear-glass techniques with internal color elements, the factory developed a reputation for combining technical innovation with modernist styling.
