Information

This rare hand mirror, made in the manner of Ivar Ålenius Björk, was likely produced in Sweden during the 1950s. Combining black lacquered wood and brass, the piece captures the restrained elegance and functional beauty characteristic of Scandinavian mid-century design.

The mirror’s circular brass frame is finely detailed, secured with small rivets that emphasize craftsmanship while lending an industrial precision to the otherwise organic form. The handle, executed in deep black lacquered wood, provides both balance and contrast to the warm tone of the brass. Its proportions are refined and tactile, designed to feel equally comfortable in the hand as it is beautiful to the eye.

This object represents the era’s fascination with materials—particularly the interplay between metal and wood—and the drive to elevate even the simplest functional items into works of art. The combination of geometric clarity and subtle patina gives it a sculptural presence, whether displayed as a decorative piece or used as a practical accessory.

The mirror remains in good vintage condition with minor signs of use and an attractive natural patina to the brass.
