Information

The AP-16 easy chair was designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1951 and produced by AP-Stolen in Denmark. This rare model is a refined example of Wegner’s ability to combine sculptural woodwork with ergonomic comfort, balancing structural lightness with visual presence.

The frame is made of oak, with characteristic curved armrests and softly tapered legs that express Wegner’s mastery of organic form. The seat and back are newly upholstered in wool fabric, a material choice that emphasizes the Scandinavian tradition of natural tactility while ensuring lasting durability. The angular yet flowing lines of the frame are typical of Wegner’s approach, where functional considerations are transformed into elegant design details.

Wegner, often referred to as the “Master of the Chair” created over 500 designs throughout his career, many of which have become icons of Danish modernism. The AP-16 stands out as one of his more architectural lounge chairs, with proportions that provide comfort without compromising the clarity of its wooden framework. Produced by AP-Stolen, a manufacturer closely associated with Wegner, the chair reflects the highest standards of mid-century Danish craftsmanship.

This pair remains in good vintage condition with small signs of age and use, consistent with careful preservation. The oak has matured in tone, displaying a natural patina that highlights the grain of the wood, while the new upholstery ensures both comfort and usability.
