Hans Wegner dining table
This is a rare dining table / desk, model AT-303, designed by the Danish architect and furniture designer Hans J. Wegner in the 1950s. The table was produced by Andreas Tuck, one of Wegner’s long-term collaborators and a respected Danish cabinetmaker known for high-quality craftsmanship and refined joinery. The piece reflects the mid-century Scandinavian approach, where functionality and simplicity are paired with carefully chosen natural materials.
The table features a rectangular teak top supported by a frame in oak, with brass stretchers providing structural stability. The combination of teak and oak creates a subtle contrast in color and grain, with the teak top presenting a rich, warm tone and the oak frame offering a lighter, natural character. The brass details contribute both strength and a touch of refinement, a typical trait in Wegner’s designs where even structural elements are given aesthetic consideration. The construction emphasizes clarity of form, with an exposed framework that underlines Wegner’s dedication to honesty in materials and structure.
Hans J. Wegner, often referred to as the master of chairs, was one of the leading figures in Danish modernism, with a career spanning more than five decades. His collaboration with Andreas Tuck was particularly fruitful, resulting in several important furniture designs that balanced practicality with sculptural quality. Wegner’s designs are widely celebrated for their ergonomics, refined detailing, and timeless character, making them central to the international recognition of Scandinavian modern furniture.
The table remains in good vintage condition, though it shows heavy signs of usage and patina consistent with age. The surface has marks and wear that testify to decades of use, adding depth and authenticity to its character. Despite this, the structure remains stable, preserving the integrity of Wegner’s original design.
