Hans Wegner dining table
This is a rare dining table model AT-304, designed by Hans J. Wegner and produced by Andreas Tuck in Denmark during the 1950s. The table exemplifies the Danish modern ethos of functional clarity, material refinement, and innovative joinery. Constructed from a combination of solid oak for the frame and teak veneer for the top surfaces, the table features a rich contrast between the golden tones of the oak base and the deeper reddish-brown hue of the teak top. The two drop-leaf extensions are supported by elegantly engineered brass stays that emphasize the table’s mechanical ingenuity while adding a refined metallic accent.
The frame adopts a visually light yet structurally sound approach with crossed oak legs joined by brass support rods. This configuration not only contributes to the table’s stability but also allows the leaves to fold down seamlessly, making the table highly adaptable for both compact and extended configurations. The drop-leaf mechanism and pinched X-frame base reflect Wegner’s mastery of woodworking and his focus on fine proportions and balance.
