Information

This rare set of eight dining chairs, model OS 2, was designed by Helge Sibast and produced by Sibast Møbelfabrik in Denmark in 1962. The chairs are executed in solid teak with caned backrests and seats in their original fabric upholstery. The design is characterized by refined joinery and a clear structural rhythm, where each component has been carefully shaped to balance strength, lightness, and visual harmony. The sculpted backrest with its curved profile and woven cane insert provides both comfort and transparency, emphasizing the Danish modern ideal of functional elegance.

Helge Sibast (1908–1985) was a Danish cabinetmaker and designer who played an important role in the evolution of Scandinavian modernism during the postwar period. His collaboration with Sibast Møbelfabrik, a family-run workshop renowned for its craftsmanship, resulted in some of the era’s most sophisticated dining furniture. Sibast’s work often displays a strong architectural sensibility, combining precise proportions with tactile materials such as teak and cane. The OS 2 model exemplifies this approach, showing how craftsmanship and industrial production could coexist within mid-century Danish furniture making.

The chairs remain in good vintage condition with signs of use and patina consistent with age. The teak frames retain a warm tone and visible grain structure, while the cane and fabric elements show gentle wear that enhances their authenticity. Overall, the set reflects the understated sophistication and material integrity characteristic of Danish design from the early 1960s.

Dimensions: width 47 cm (18.5 in), depth 48 cm (18.9 in), height 85 cm (33.5 in), seat height 44 cm (17.3 in).
