Information

This very rare set of four dining chairs was designed by Helge Sibast and produced by Sibast Furniture in Denmark during the 1950s. The chairs demonstrate Sibast’s refined approach to modern craftsmanship, balancing sculptural precision with functional comfort.

Each chair is constructed in solid teak, showcasing the warm grain and natural luster of the wood. The design is defined by a striking Y-shaped backrest that provides both structural strength and ergonomic support. The geometry of the backrest, tapering gracefully into the seat, emphasizes the organic yet disciplined form typical of mid-century Danish design.

The seats are upholstered in black imitation leather, providing a smooth, durable surface that contrasts elegantly with the teak frame. The upholstery is neatly tailored and lightly padded, ensuring comfort while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic.

Produced by Sibast, a leading Danish cabinetmaker known for its collaboration with prominent designers, these chairs represent a blend of craftsmanship and architectural clarity. Helge Sibast’s work often reflected his deep understanding of proportion and the interplay between solid and open space, which is clearly expressed in this model.

The set remains in good vintage condition, with small signs of use consistent with age and careful handling. The teak surfaces display an even patina, and the joints are tight and stable.

Dimensions: 48 × 47 × 85 cm (18.9 × 18.5 × 33.5 inches), seat height 45 cm (17.7 inches).
