Information

This set of five ceramic bowls, model Kokos, was designed by Hjördis Oldfors and produced by Upsala Ekeby in Sweden during the 1950s. The bowls feature an organic, asymmetrical shape with smooth, flowing curves that enhance their sculptural quality. The exterior is decorated with a textured matte brown surface, accented by fine vertical grooves that reveal a lighter tone beneath. The interior contrasts this with a glossy ochre glaze, creating a striking interplay between raw and polished finishes.

Hjördis Oldfors was a leading ceramic designer at Upsala Ekeby in the mid-century period, known for her innovative and artistic treatment of form and surface decoration. Her designs often incorporated natural motifs, textural contrasts, and carefully balanced proportions. Upsala Ekeby was one of Sweden’s most influential ceramic manufacturers, celebrated for producing high-quality stoneware that combined practical function with artistic expression.

The set is in good vintage condition, showing minor wear consistent with age. The varying sizes of the bowls offer versatile functionality, suitable for both decorative display and serving purposes.

The largest bowl measures 20 centimeters in width, 21 centimeters in depth, and 15.5 centimeters in height (7.9 x 8.3 x 6.1 inches). The smallest bowl measures 9.5 centimeters in width and depth, and 8.5 centimeters in height (3.7 x 3.7 x 3.3 inches).
