Gertrud Lönegren vase

A very rare Florens vase designed by Gertrud Lönegren and produced by Rörstrand in Sweden during the 1930s. A striking example of Scandinavian Art Deco, the vase combines a bold sculptural silhouette with an exceptionally tactile surface, demonstrating Lönegren’s mastery of form and glaze. Today, the Florens series is among the designer’s most sought-after works, admired for its architectural character and timeless decorative appeal.

The vase features a perfectly rounded globe-shaped body with a narrow cylindrical neck, entirely covered in meticulously carved vertical fluting arranged in concentric bands. This rhythmic texture creates a captivating interplay of light and shadow, further enhanced by Rörstrand’s richly variegated glaze. Warm honey, ochre and cream tones are contrasted by deep chocolate-brown accents that settle into the recessed grooves, giving the surface remarkable depth and movement. The hand-applied glaze ensures every example possesses its own unique character.

Gertrud Lönegren was one of Sweden’s foremost ceramic designers of the mid-20th century, celebrated for creating sculptural forms inspired by nature and Nordic craftsmanship. Her work for Rörstrand during the 1940s occupies an important place in Scandinavian ceramic history, bridging the elegance of Art Deco with the emerging organic sensibilities that would define post-war Scandinavian design.

Marked on the underside with the Rörstrand factory stamp, the designer’s name, and model number L 125, the vase is an authentic and increasingly scarce collector’s piece.

The vase measures 22 cm in diameter and 22 cm in height (approximately 8.7 × 8.7 inches).
