Holger Johansson wall lamps
This rare set of wall lamps was designed by Holger Johansson and produced by Westal in Sweden. The lamps are crafted from brass with a polished surface and paired with large, spherical glass shades in a softly smoked tone. The composition is clean and balanced: a rectangular brass backplate supports a horizontal arm and vertical stem, which holds the glass globe at the center. The globe’s generous size gives the lamps a strong presence while allowing the light source to be fully visible, creating a warm and atmospheric glow when lit.
Holger Johansson was a prolific Swedish lighting designer whose work for Westal and other manufacturers defined much of the country’s post-war lighting aesthetic. His designs often emphasized simplicity, high-quality materials, and functional clarity, qualities that are evident in these lamps. The smoked glass diffuses light gently, producing a soft, ambient illumination while also projecting a distinctive circular glow on the wall behind.
The brass surfaces show only minor signs of age and have retained their warm golden tone, with subtle patina that enhances their depth. The glass globes are clear and free of cracks or chips. The set is in excellent vintage condition and remains fully functional.
