Ib Kofod-Larsen sideboard
This rare sideboard, model Trol, was designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by Seffle Möbelfabrik in Sweden during the 1950s. The piece is executed in rosewood with a rich surface marked by expressive grain patterns and deep tonal variation. The long rectangular cabinet rests on sculptural, V-shaped legs that are characteristic of Kofod-Larsen’s refined and architectural approach to furniture design. These legs elevate the composition visually while maintaining a stable and balanced structure.
The exterior of the sideboard is formed by four front sections, each with horizontal rosewood veneers aligned to create a continuous flow of grain across the facade. The edges are sharp and clean, emphasizing the rectangular geometry of the piece. When opened, the interior reveals a functional arrangement comprising shelves and a series of drawers. The drawers are designed with contrasting light interiors that highlight the craftsmanship and thoughtful partitioning typical of Scandinavian modern cabinetry.
Ib Kofod-Larsen was one of the most internationally oriented Danish designers of the mid-century period, recognized for his ability to work with organic materials in a precise and modern manner. His designs often combine sculptural woodworking with a disciplined sense of proportion, and the Trol model reflects these values clearly. Seffle Möbelfabrik, the Swedish manufacturer, was known for high-quality production and collaborated with several leading designers. Their execution of this model shows careful attention to veneer matching, joinery, and the finishing of sculpted leg components.
The sideboard measures 244 cm in length, 47 cm in depth, and 72 cm in height. This corresponds to approximately 96.1 inches by 18.5 inches by 28.3 inches. The condition is excellent with small signs of usage, consistent with careful preservation over several decades.
