Information

This very rare pair of model 10 easy chairs was designed by Illum Wikkelsø and produced by Søren Willadsen Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1950s. The pair includes both a high-back and a low-back version, each demonstrating Wikkelsø’s refined sculptural sensibility and the material warmth characteristic of Scandinavian mid-century modern furniture.

Both frames are crafted from solid teak, exhibiting a medium-brown tone with a finely visible grain. The design features dynamic angular lines and precise joinery, with the rear legs gently inclining outward to provide visual lightness and structural stability. The armrests are softly tapered and curved, enhancing the tactile experience and reinforcing the organic modernist aesthetic. The teak has been fully restored, resulting in a consistent finish across both chairs.

The upholstery has been newly redone in a neutral wool fabric with a subtle weave, offering both softness and durability. The clean upholstery work maintains the original profiles of the seat and back cushions, while the neutral color complements the warm teak, emphasizing the understated elegance of the design.

Illum Wikkelsø (1919–1999), a Danish designer trained in cabinetmaking and educated at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts, was closely linked to the organic modernist tradition in Scandinavia. His designs focus on comfort, structural clarity, and a balance between expressive form and minimalism. Model 10 is one of his more sculptural lounge chair designs, achieving an architectural presence while providing ergonomic support.

Søren Willadsen Møbelfabrik, active in the postwar period, was recognized for producing high-quality furniture and frequently collaborated with leading designers. This pair of chairs exemplifies the company’s dedication to craftsmanship, structural integrity, and design precision.

Both chairs are in very good vintage condition following complete restoration. The teak frames show minimal wear, and the upholstery is fresh and new.

The low-back chair measures 80 cm wide, 78 cm deep, and 80 cm high, with a seat height of 38 cm (approximately 31.5 inches wide, 30.7 inches deep, 31.5 inches high, and 15 inches seat height). The high-back chair measures 80 cm wide, 80 cm deep, and 103 cm high, sharing the same seat height of 38 cm (approximately 31.5 inches wide, 31.5 inches deep, 40.6 inches high, and 15 inches seat height).
