Ingegerd Silow carpet
This mid-century flat-weave carpet was designed by Swedish textile artist Ingegerd Silow and produced in Sweden during the 1950s. It features a geometric pattern characteristic of Scandinavian modernism, with a harmonious palette of muted greens, golden ochres, earthy browns, and soft pink accents. The composition is defined by symmetrical arrangements of triangles, diamonds, and stepped motifs, executed with precision in the traditional rölakan weaving technique.
The rug is crafted from wool on a linen warp, offering both durability and a tactile surface texture. The colors are achieved through dyed yarns, subtly variegated to create depth within the geometric forms. The fringed edges at both ends are hand-finished, reinforcing the artisanal nature of the piece.
Ingegerd Silow was a prominent figure in 20th-century Swedish textile design, known for her ability to blend traditional folk art influences with the clean lines and balanced proportions of modernist aesthetics. Her work was widely produced by Swedish weaving ateliers during the mid-century period, contributing to the international recognition of Scandinavian handwoven textiles.
This example remains in good vintage condition, with light signs of wear and a natural patina consistent with age and use. The structural integrity of the weave is intact, and the colors have retained their vibrancy over time. It represents a fine example of collectible Swedish mid-century textile design.
