Itsu table lamps
This rare pair of table lamps, model EV 54, was produced by Itsu in Finland during the 1950s. The designer of these lamps is unknown, yet the pieces clearly reflect the sculptural and refined aesthetics typical of Scandinavian mid-century lighting design. Constructed entirely from brass, each lamp features a gracefully curved arm reminiscent of a swan’s neck, mounted on a rectangular base that rests on four small cylindrical feet. The arm is attached via a flexible, coiled joint, allowing for subtle adjustments to the direction of the light.
The lampshades have a conical shape with a softly rounded tip and display a pattern of fine perforations distributed evenly across the brass surface. These perforations create a delicate visual texture and allow small points of light to radiate when the lamps are illuminated, adding an atmospheric quality that complements the focused downward light.
The brass surfaces have naturally aged, showing a warm patina with areas of oxidation and surface wear consistent with their vintage status. The bases are marked with the Itsu manufacturer’s stamp, a Finnish company known in the mid-20th century for producing decorative and architectural lighting of notable quality. This marking confirms the lamps’ origin and situates them within the broader context of Finnish lighting production during that period.
Stylistically, the lamps embody key aspects of postwar Scandinavian design, emphasizing a harmonious balance of form and function through the use of quality materials and minimal decorative elements. The condition is good for vintage items, with expected signs of use such as minor dents, surface wear, and variations in the brass finish that add character without detracting from the overall integrity.
Dimensions for each lamp are 11 cm in width, 25 cm in depth, and 30 cm in height, which corresponds to approximately 4.3 inches wide, 9.8 inches deep, and 11.8 inches tall.
