Fog & Mørup table lamp
This table lamp is a rare and early example produced by Fog & Mørup in Denmark during the 1950s. The lamp features a distinctive layered glass shade with a warm orange patina that creates a soft, diffused glow when illuminated. The glass shade is paired with a base crafted from bakelite, a popular early plastic known for its durability and heat resistance, finished in a dark tone that contrasts with the lighter top.
The design incorporates brass elements at the top, including a small finial, which adds a refined metallic accent to the overall aesthetic. The shape of the lamp is characterized by its rounded and tiered glass shade, which sits atop a slender, tapered stem resting on a circular base. The stem and base provide stability and balance to the more delicate and visually striking glass shade.
Fog & Mørup was a prominent Danish lighting manufacturer known for collaborating with leading designers in the mid-20th century to produce innovative and stylish lighting fixtures.
This lamp measures 32 cm in diameter and 46.5 cm in height (approximately 12.6 x 18.3 inches). Its condition is excellent, with the glass shade retaining its original coloration and no visible cracks or chips. The bakelite base and brass components show minimal signs of wear, maintaining the lamp’s original integrity.
The lamp exemplifies Danish mid-century modern design, combining sculptural form, high-quality materials, and functional lighting technology.
