Ivar Ålenius Björk vase
This rare brass vase was designed by Ivar Ålenius Björk and produced by Ystad Metall in Sweden during the 1930s. It is a striking example of Scandinavian Art Deco design, composed of three cylindrical tubes of varying heights arranged in a stepped formation and joined at the base. This sculptural composition conveys a sense of movement and verticality. The diagonal-cut openings at the top of each tube enhance the geometric precision of the design while serving a functional purpose as vases.
Ivar Ålenius Björk was a Swedish designer known for his refined brasswork, particularly in collaboration with Ystad Metall, a company specializing in high-quality metal objects throughout the early to mid-20th century. His designs often combined modernist minimalism with decorative elegance, characteristic of the Art Deco movement. Ystad Metall was renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship and production of sophisticated brassware, making this vase a notable piece in Scandinavian design history.
The brass surface has developed a natural patina over time, with areas of oxidation and age-related wear that enhance its historical authenticity. The vase remains in good vintage condition, retaining its original structure and design integrity.
The vase measures 8 centimeters in diameter and 31 centimeters in height (3.1 x 12.2 inches).
