Jacob Ängman attrib. table lamp
The lamp features a rounded bronze body resting on a low, square base. Its spherical form is accentuated by a series of fine, parallel horizontal bands encircling the middle, creating a subtle decorative division between the upper and lower hemispheres. These contrasting bands introduce a refined linear detail to the otherwise smooth, continuous surface.
The bronze displays a rich, naturally aged patina with variations of deep brown and muted green tones. These subtle changes in coloration emphasize the curved surface and give the lamp a distinctive vintage character. The square base provides a geometric counterpoint to the rounded body, reinforcing the interplay of simple forms.
A new, wide conical fabric shade complements the compact spherical base. Its sharply tapered silhouette creates a striking contrast with the rounded bronze body, while its light-colored fabric softens the overall composition. When illuminated, the shade diffuses a warm, atmospheric light, highlighting the texture of the fabric and the bronze surface beneath.
The underside bears a stamped GAB Sweden mark, identifying the manufacturer. The design is attributed to Jacob Ängman, whose work is associated with Swedish decorative arts and the development of modern metalwork during the early twentieth century.
The lamp is in good vintage condition, with minor signs of age and use. The bronze retains its characteristic patina, and the newly fitted shade provides a clean contrast to the aged surface.
Measuring 30.5 cm in diameter and 35 cm in height, this Art Deco table lamp combines sculptural simplicity with carefully restrained ornamentation. Its distinctive proportions and rich surface finish make it a decorative example of Swedish design from the 1930s.
