Information

Rare Capri coffee table designed by Danish furniture designer Johannes Andersen and produced by Trensum Möbelfabrik in Sweden during the 1960s. The table is made from teak and belongs to the Scandinavian modern tradition, combining a functional layout with carefully shaped joinery and an emphasis on the natural character of the wood.

The elongated top has an organic, asymmetrical form with softly rounded ends and a subtly curved perimeter. Its warm reddish-brown teak surface displays a fine, relatively even grain. A substantial sculpted apron follows the outline of the top and flows visually into five slender, tapered legs, including a central supporting leg. This integrated construction gives the large table a light and balanced appearance.

Two shallow drawers are incorporated into one long side of the apron. Each drawer has an elongated recessed pull with a dark contrasting insert, providing concealed storage while preserving the table’s continuous profile. The pale drawer interiors contrast with the darker teak exterior. Andersen’s work is associated with refined organic forms and sculptural timber detailing, qualities clearly represented in the rounded frame, tapered supports and discreetly integrated storage.

Johannes Andersen was active during the principal period of postwar Danish modernism and designed furniture for several Scandinavian manufacturers. Trensum Möbelfabrik was a Swedish producer associated with well-constructed mid-century furniture, including a number of Andersen’s designs. The Capri model reflects the close relationship between Danish design and Swedish furniture production during the 1960s.

The table measures 172 cm in length, 67.5 cm in width and 50 cm in height, corresponding to approximately 67.7 x 26.6 x 19.7 inches.

It is in good vintage condition, with signs of use and an established patina consistent with its age. Full professional restoration can be offered if a more uniform finish is preferred.
