Josef Frank ceiling lamp
This rare ceiling lamp, model 2538, also known as “Kinabollen”, was designed by Josef Frank and produced by Svenskt Tenn in Sweden during the 1940s. With its softly rounded, lantern-like silhouette and gently faceted shade construction, it is an elegant example of Frank’s ability to combine warmth, atmosphere and architectural clarity in a single object.
The lamp is executed in brass, showing an authentic surface with natural patina and visible signs of age that enhance its character. The shade has been newly reupholstered in white fabric, giving a clean and crisp appearance while allowing the light to glow through with a soft, even diffusion. When lit, the lamp creates a warm and inviting ambience, with the brass details adding depth and definition to the overall form.
With its restrained Scandinavian modern expression and its distinctive volume, Kinabollen works beautifully as a statement piece above a dining table, in a bedroom, hallway or reading corner, offering both decorative presence and practical atmospheric lighting.
The lamp measures 30 cm in diameter (11.8 in) and has a total height of 116 cm (45.7 in). It is in good vintage condition with signs of usage and patina consistent with age.
