Josef Frank table lamp
This rare table lamp, model G-2466, was designed by Josef Frank and produced by Svenskt Tenn in Sweden during the 1960s. The lamp combines green lacquered metal, brass detailing, and its original yellow fabric shade, reflecting Frank’s distinctive approach that blends whimsical color with classical yet modern materials.
The base is circular brass supporting a slender, slightly tapered central stem painted green, accented with brass collars at both ends. The large lampshade has a pumpkin-like shape, segmented by vertical stitched ribs that create a distinctive silhouette. Made from yellow textile stretched over a lightweight frame, the shade emits a warm, atmospheric glow when lit. The interior frame and bulb mount are visible, and the original switch is located at the base.
Josef Frank (1885–1967), an Austrian-born architect and designer, was a pivotal figure in Swedish modern design. From the 1930s onward, his work with Svenskt Tenn helped redefine Swedish interiors through bold color use, organic forms, and a relaxed take on functionalism. Model G-2466 exemplifies his talent for merging traditional forms with playfulness and warmth, marrying historical influences with modern materials.
Svenskt Tenn, founded in 1924 by Estrid Ericson, is one of Sweden’s most iconic design houses. Under Frank’s creative direction, the company gained international acclaim for its eclectic yet cohesive furniture and lighting designs.
The lamp is in very good condition, showing patina on the brass and signs of aging on the original vintage fabric shade. It retains all original components and finishes.
