Josef Frank table lamps
This rare pair of table lamps, model 2466, designed by Josef Frank and produced by Svenskt Tenn in Sweden during the 1950s, embodies the designer’s balanced integration of materials and form. Each lamp features a brass structure supporting a white lacquered metal stem, resting on a circular brass base. The original fabric lampshades are softly tapered, providing a warm and diffused ambient light that enhances the lamps’ refined presence.
Josef Frank, an Austrian-Swedish architect and designer, played a significant role in shaping Scandinavian modernism through his rejection of strict functionalism in favor of organic, human-centered design. His work is marked by the use of high-quality materials and timeless forms that combine functionality with aesthetic warmth. Svenskt Tenn, the Swedish design firm responsible for producing these lamps, has long been associated with Frank’s legacy and dedication to craftsmanship and enduring style.
The brass components have developed a natural patina over time, lending the lamps an authentic aged character, while the white lacquered metal remains well preserved. The original lampshades complement the overall design, maintaining the lamps’ integrity and period appearance. Each lamp measures 35.5 cm in diameter and 68 cm in height (14 x 26.8 inches), presenting a harmonious example of mid-century Swedish lighting design.
