Josef Frank table mirror
This rare table mirror was designed by Josef Frank and produced by Svenskt Tenn in Sweden during the 1950s. It features a circular mirror encased in a brass frame, supported by an adjustable brass stand with a weighted, round base for stability. The rear of the mirror is finished with mahogany, demonstrating Frank’s characteristic use of high-quality, contrasting materials.
The mirror is both tiltable and height-adjustable, with a range from 48 cm to 65 cm (18.9 to 25.6 inches), allowing for versatile positioning. The brass surfaces have developed a natural patina, indicative of age-related oxidation, while the mahogany back retains its warm wood grain and remains in good condition.
Josef Frank, an Austrian-born architect and designer, was a pivotal figure in Swedish modernism. His work for Svenskt Tenn is celebrated for combining functionality with craftsmanship and a refined, practical elegance.
