Just Andersen vase

A rare Art Deco bronze vase designed by Just Andersen and produced in Sweden by GAB (Guldsmedsaktiebolaget).

The vase is defined by a particularly pure and balanced silhouette: a full, elongated ovoid body rises into a slender concave neck before opening gently at the rim. The rounded volume of the vessel is contrasted by a precisely geometric square base, giving the design a subtle architectural quality. Its complete absence of applied ornament places the emphasis on proportion, contour and material.

Executed in bronze, the surface has developed a deep brown patina with subtle variations of darker tones and traces of green oxidation. The restrained finish accentuates the vase’s sculptural form and gives the bronze considerable visual depth.

Just Andersen (1884–1943) was a Danish sculptor, silversmith and designer whose work bridged sculpture and the decorative arts. His designs frequently combine classical proportions with the simplified geometry associated with Art Deco, resulting in objects distinguished by strong silhouettes and carefully controlled surfaces.

The underside is stamped with the GAB mark for Guldsmedsaktiebolaget.

Good vintage condition with signs of age and use and a naturally developed patina.
