Kaare Klint easy chairs

This rare pair of easy chairs, model 5313, was designed by Kaare Klint and produced by the esteemed cabinetmaker Rud Rasmussen in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1935. Constructed from solid oak with a warm, natural finish, the chairs are upholstered in their original green savak wool, accented by cognac-colored leather piping. The design features a modestly curved backrest, low flared armrests, and a detached seat cushion, emphasizing ergonomic comfort while maintaining architectural clarity. The front legs are straight, while the rear legs subtly splay outward, providing both visual lightness and structural stability.

The chairs are in very good condition, with upholstery and leather trim well preserved and showing minimal wear. The oak frames remain structurally sound and exhibit a rich patina developed over time. The original maker’s label from Rud Rasmussen is intact beneath the frame, confirming provenance and production authenticity.

Kaare Klint (1888–1954), regarded as the father of Danish modern furniture design, was known for his analytical design process that combined classical proportions with modern functionality and meticulous material consideration. His collaboration with Rud Rasmussen represents a cornerstone of Danish furniture history. Model 5313 exemplifies Klint’s refined approach to lounge seating, balancing comfort, form, and craftsmanship.

Rud Rasmussen, established in the late 19th century, was one of Denmark’s foremost cabinetmakers, playing a key role in producing high-quality furniture throughout the 20th century. The company worked closely with Klint and other leading Danish modern designers, merging artisanal techniques with the evolving language of modernism.

The dimensions are 70 cm in width, 72 cm in depth, and 82 cm in height, with a seat height of 43 cm, approximately 27.6 x 28.3 x 32.3 inches, and a seat height of 16.9 inches.
