Kai Kristiansen coffee table
This coffee table was designed by Kai Kristiansen and produced by Feldballes Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1960s. It is crafted in rosewood, a material favored in Scandinavian mid century furniture for its depth of color and richly figured grain. The table has a rectangular top with softly rounded edges and stands on tapered legs that give it a balanced, light expression while maintaining stability.
The design incorporates two extendable leaves, which slide out seamlessly from beneath the main surface. This functional feature allows the table to be adapted for different settings, expanding its width to accommodate gatherings or additional use. The extension leaves maintain the same rosewood grain and finish, preserving the continuity of the design.
The table has been completely restored and is presented in excellent vintage condition. Its construction highlights Kristiansen’s approach to design, where elegant proportions are combined with practical versatility. Feldballes Møbelfabrik, known for its high-quality cabinetmaking, played a central role in producing some of Kristiansen’s most enduring designs.
This piece belongs to the Scandinavian mid century tradition, characterized by clean lines, respect for natural materials, and functional adaptability. Its extendable structure makes it both an expressive and versatile example of Danish design from this era.
