Information

This rare set comprises two small sideboards, model 42, and one bureau, model 40, designed by Kai Kristiansen in 1958. Produced by Feldballes Møbelfabrik in Denmark, the pieces are exemplary of mid-century Scandinavian cabinetmaking, where functionality and refined aesthetics are combined in balanced proportions. Kristiansen, known for his sculptural approach to furniture, here demonstrates a controlled minimalism with carefully considered details.

The sideboards and bureau are executed in richly figured rosewood, with its deep brown tone and expressive grain providing a warm, natural presence. The sliding doors are lacquered in a soft white-beige tone, creating a strong contrast to the darker frame and drawer sections. The bureau features four central drawers, fitted with sculpted recessed handles in rosewood, while the sideboards are equipped with sliding doors concealing adjustable glass shelves. The furniture rests on tapered legs, accentuating the lightness of the construction and reinforcing the modernist aesthetic.

The set is in good vintage condition, displaying small signs of wear consistent with age and use, along with a well-preserved patina that emphasizes the natural depth of the rosewood and the smoothness of the lacquered surfaces. The craftsmanship of Feldballes Møbelfabrik is evident in the precision of the joinery and the quality of the materials, which reflect the high standards of Danish furniture production during the mid-twentieth century.

Dimensions each: width 85.5 cm (33.7 in), depth 40 cm (15.7 in), height 76 cm (29.9 in)
