Kai Lyngfeldt Larsen armchairs
This rare pair of armchairs was designed by Danish architect and furniture designer Kai Lyngfeldt Larsen and produced by Søren Willadsen Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1950s. Crafted from solid rosewood and featuring original tan leather upholstery, these chairs represent a refined expression of Scandinavian mid-century design, known for their material honesty, elegant construction, and ergonomic comfort.
The frames are made of dark rosewood, distinguished by its dramatic grain pattern and luxurious, dense surface. The design includes gently sculpted armrests and a softly curved seat and backrest, all upholstered in naturally aged tan leather. The backrest is slightly reclined and framed with discreet fastenings. The chair’s proportions reflect careful attention to comfort and support, offering both aesthetic beauty and functional design. From the side profile, the chairs reveal a dynamic interplay of tapering legs and softly contoured joints, showcasing Lyngfeldt Larsen’s organic yet architectural approach.
Kai Lyngfeldt Larsen was active during a period of high international recognition for Danish furniture and worked alongside many key figures in the mid-century modern movement. While not as widely known as some of his contemporaries, his work is highly regarded for its craftsmanship, graceful proportions, and restrained modernism. His collaborations with Søren Willadsen Møbelfabrik resulted in some of his finest seating designs, distinguished by subtle detailing and exceptional quality.
