Kay Kørbing ceiling lamps
This rare ceiling-mounted flush light was designed by Danish architect and designer Kay Kørbing and produced by Lyfa in Denmark during the 1960s. The fixture features a cylindrical form crafted from patinated brass combined with deep brown lacquered metal, creating a warm yet industrial aesthetic typical of mid-century Scandinavian lighting.
The design includes a recessed ring of clear glass at the base, which encloses a white inner diffuser. This diffuser softens the downward light emission, providing ambient illumination without harsh glare. The upper brass section is perforated with vent-like holes, referencing industrial motifs and enhancing air circulation around the light source—an example of Kørbing’s architectural approach to combining form and function.
Lyfa, a prominent Danish lighting manufacturer active throughout the 20th century, was well known for its collaborations with Danish designers and its emphasis on technically refined luminaires. While Kay Kørbing is less widely known, his work reflects a clear architectural sensibility and thoughtful material use within the Danish modern movement.
These lamps are in good vintage condition with minor signs of wear, including slight patina on the brass and subtle lacquering wear. The construction is sound, with original materials fully intact.
