Information

This freestanding sideboard or console table was designed by Kerstin Hörlin-Holmquist in 1965 and produced by Nordiska Kompaniet in Sweden. It represents the designer’s refined approach to furniture, balancing functional clarity with subtle detailing.

The piece is crafted in mahogany with a warm, even tone that emphasizes the natural grain of the wood. Its form is rectangular with clean lines, complemented by a raised edge along the back and sides of the tabletop that adds both a practical and aesthetic element. The table is supported by slender, square-profiled legs connected by a lower shelf, providing additional storage and structural balance. The drawers are fitted with solid brass handles, circular in shape with a hinged drop design, which add a touch of formality and understated luxury.

Kerstin Hörlin-Holmquist was a Swedish architect and designer who created furniture with a distinct Scandinavian sensibility, often combining restrained elegance with functionality. This piece, made by Nordiska Kompaniet, reflects the high level of craftsmanship and material quality associated with the department store’s in-house production during the mid-20th century.

The table remains in excellent vintage condition with minor signs of usage and a light patina to both wood and brass. The overall impression is one of preserved authenticity, with the surface and fittings displaying the natural signs of careful use over time.
