Kerstin Hörlin-Holmquist
Kerstin Hörlin-Holmquist (1925–1997) was a Swedish furniture designer known for her elegant and distinctive contributions to Scandinavian modern design. Her work is closely associated with Nordiska Kompaniet (NK), where she created furniture characterized by soft, organic forms, comfort, and a refined sense of proportion. Biography
Kerstin Hörlin-Holmquist was born on May 30, 1925, in Arvika, Sweden, the daughter of artist Tor Hörlin. She studied design in England before continuing her education at Konstfack in Stockholm, after which she established her own practice. During the 1950s and early 1960s, she developed furniture and interior textiles for Nordiska Kompaniet, contributing to the company’s modern and forward-looking design profile.
Her work extended beyond furniture to include interior design projects for both public and private environments, demonstrating a holistic understanding of space, color, and material. Hörlin-Holmquist’s designs are recognized for their inviting character and carefully balanced forms, combining comfort with a clear modernist expression.
