Kristian Solmer Vedel easy chairs

This rare set of three easy chairs with a matching side table, model Modus, was designed by Kristian Solmer Vedel in 1963 and produced by Søren Willadsens Møbelfabrik in Denmark. The ensemble is constructed in rosewood with original black leather upholstery and a glass tabletop, exemplifying the refined craftsmanship and sculptural elegance characteristic of Danish modern design.

The chairs feature a solid rosewood frame with rounded edges and precise joinery that highlight the natural grain and deep coloration of the wood. The black leather cushions are generously proportioned, providing both structure and comfort, and are supported by canvas webbing beneath. The armrests and backrests are wrapped in leather that shows gentle wear consistent with age, contributing to a rich patina and a sense of authenticity. The connecting table mirrors the same constructional finesse, with softly curved edges and a floating glass top set within the wooden frame.

Kristian Solmer Vedel (1923–2003) was part of the influential generation of Danish designers who emphasized ergonomics, modularity, and craftsmanship in their work. Educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts under Kaare Klint, Vedel developed a design language defined by organic form and functional clarity. The Modus series, produced by Søren Willadsens Møbelfabrik, is among his most notable works, distinguished by its modular concept that allowed various configurations of seating and tables, reflecting the flexibility of modern living.

The set remains in good vintage condition, with visible signs of usage and minor wear to the armrests. The leather retains its natural surface texture, and the rosewood displays a warm, even finish that enhances the sculptural character of the ensemble.
