Kurt Østervig bar cabinet
This very rare bar cabinet, model no. 93, was designed by Kurt Østervig and produced by K.P. Møbler in Denmark in 1945. The cabinet is crafted from a combination of teak, oak, brass, and glass, showcasing the sophisticated materiality and craftsmanship that characterized mid-century Scandinavian furniture design.
The exterior is constructed from richly grained teak wood, with the door fronts featuring a distinctive decorative pattern of inlaid circular motifs, adding visual interest through subtle variations in grain direction. The cabinet stands on a solid oak frame with rounded legs and cross-stretchers that provide structural support and a light, airy appearance. The cabinet doors open to reveal an interior outfitted with a finely detailed arrangement, including ribbed glass shelving for glassware, a fitted bottle holder, small drawers for utensils, and a pull-out tray with a laminated surface, practical for serving.
The condition is very good with signs of light wear consistent with age, including minor surface marks and a gentle patina to the brass fittings, contributing to the authenticity of the piece without detracting from its overall refined presence.
