Lars Holmström ceiling lamp
A very rare ceiling lamp designed by Lars Holmström and produced by Firma Lars Holmström in Arvika, Sweden, exemplifying the refined transition between Swedish Grace and early Art Deco. The composition is defined by its balanced geometry and ornamental restraint, where decorative elements are integrated into a disciplined circular form.
The fixture features a broad, circular frame in brushed steel, enclosing a frosted glass diffuser that softens and evenly distributes the light. Set against the glass is an intricate arrangement of gilded brass scrollwork, formed into a symmetrical pattern of spirals and stylized motifs radiating from the center. This ornamental layer introduces a sense of movement and elegance while maintaining the clarity and proportion characteristic of the period.
Above, the lamp is crowned by a sculptural brass mount with a subtly fluted form, supporting multiple light sources within. When illuminated, the fixture emits a warm, ambient glow that enhances the golden tones of the brass and projects a decorative interplay of light and shadow onto the surrounding ceiling, emphasizing the sculptural quality of the design.
The lamp measures approximately 57.5 cm (22.6 inches) in diameter and 20 cm (7.9 inches) in height. It remains in good vintage condition with visible signs of age, including minor wear to the metal surfaces and a developed patina to the brass elements, consistent with its history and adding to its overall character.
