Lennart Bender easy chair
A very rare easy chair model “The Rose” designed by Lennart Bender and produced by Walter Carlsson Industrier AB in Valdemarsvik, Sweden, during the 1960s. The chair is a distinctive example of Scandinavian mid-century modern design, characterized by its sculptural, organic form and an emphasis on both comfort and visual lightness.
The seat is generously shaped with a softly curved, almost petal-like silhouette, giving the model its name. The flowing lines wrap around the sitter, forming integrated armrests that fold inward in a gentle, embracing gesture. The upholstery is executed in its original purple fabric, a rich and slightly muted tone that enhances the chair’s sculptural presence while adding depth and warmth. The textile shows a fine, even weave and a subtle texture that complements the rounded contours of the form.
The base consists of a slender steel frame with a brushed or satin finish, lending a refined industrial contrast to the softness of the upholstered shell. The construction is airy and precise, with thin tubular legs connected by cross supports, terminating in small circular feet. This elegant structure elevates the seat visually, reinforcing the balance between lightness and stability typical of the period.
The chair remains in good vintage condition with visible signs of age and use, including minor wear to the fabric and a natural patina to the metal frame. These elements contribute to its authenticity and character without detracting from its overall appearance or functionality.
Dimensions are approximately 90 cm wide, 75 cm deep, and 80.5 cm high, with a seat height of 42 cm. This corresponds to about 35.4 inches in width, 29.5 inches in depth, 31.7 inches in height, and a seat height of 16.5 inches.
