Lennart Bender
Lennart Bender was a Swedish furniture and industrial designer active during the latter half of the 20th century, whose work reflects the clarity, functionality, and restrained elegance associated with Scandinavian modern design.
Biography
Following his training, Bender worked with several companies in Sweden and internationally, including Electrolux, Ericsson, and Sony. Alongside his professional practice, he also taught industrial design at Konstfack in Stockholm, contributing to the development of a new generation of designers.
Bender is particularly recognized for his furniture designs produced during the 1950s and 1960s. His work is associated with Swedish manufacturers such as Stjernmöbler in Herrljunga and Walter Carlsson Industrier AB in Valdemarsvik, where his designs were executed with a focus on material quality and functional construction.
His designs are characterized by clean lines, balanced proportions, and an emphasis on practical use. Whether in seating or storage furniture, Bender consistently explored a restrained formal language, aligning his work with the broader ideals of Swedish modernism.
