AB Fröseke mirror

This “Aristokrat” mirror with integrated lighting was produced by AB Nybrofabriken Fröseke in Sweden during the 1960s, designed by an unknown designer. It represents mid-century Scandinavian design through its refined material use, functional integration, and formal simplicity.

The mirror is framed in solid rosewood, valued for its density, warm reddish tones, and distinctive grain patterns. The rectangular frame features clean, sharp mitred joints and a deeply inset glass surface, emphasizing geometric clarity. The rosewood’s pronounced striping and color variations contribute to the piece’s rich visual texture.

Flanking the mirror are two symmetrical brass wall lamps, composed of stacked cylindrical segments with perforations that serve both decorative and functional purposes. These tiered brass elements diffuse light warmly, casting an ambient glow that accentuates the rosewood frame and softens the mirror’s reflection. The brass has developed an aged patina with visible tarnishing and surface wear consistent with vintage condition. The lamps, positioned vertically at head height, are designed to accommodate two bulbs up to 60 watts each, as noted on the original technical label on the reverse.

Fröseke, operating under AB Nybrofabriken, was a significant Swedish manufacturer in the postwar era, known for combining tropical woods with metals in mirrors and lighting. The Aristokrat model is among their more luxurious offerings, reflected in the sophisticated pairing of brass and rosewood.

The mirror is in good vintage condition, showing typical age-related wear on wood and brass. The integrated lighting is functional, and the mirror glass remains clear and intact. The original technical sheet affixed to the back confirms the model name, manufacturer, and specifications.

The mirror measures 80.5 cm in width, 15 cm in depth, and 117 cm in height (approximately 31.7 by 5.9 by 46.1 inches).
