Niels O. Møller armchairs
This set of armchairs is the rare model 62, designed by Niels Otto Møller and produced by J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1960s. The chairs reflect the Danish mid-century modern movement with an emphasis on organic form, craftsmanship, and clarity of structure.
Each chair is constructed from solid mahogany, characterized by its fine grain and deep reddish-brown hue. The wood has been finely sculpted into a continuous, flowing frame with softly curved arms and back legs, accentuating Møller’s signature approach to form and proportion. The backrest features three horizontal curved rails, ergonomically contoured to provide lumbar support while visually lightening the structure. The joinery is executed with high precision, and the transitions between elements are seamless, consistent with the quality standards of J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik. The seat is upholstered in the original green wool fabric. The upholstery has some light fading and minor signs of use consistent with age, but remains intact and serviceable. The tone of the green varies slightly in texture, providing a subtle contrast to the smooth wooden frame.
Niels Otto Møller, trained as a cabinetmaker, founded his own workshop in 1944 and was deeply involved in every aspect of production. His designs are known for their refined silhouettes and enduring comfort, achieved through meticulous material selection and hand-finishing. Model 62 is among his most sculptural armchair designs, combining visual elegance with practical seating comfort.
Each chair measures 55.5 cm in width, 52 cm in depth, and 80.5 cm in height, with a seat height of 45 cm (21.9 x 20.5 x 31.7 inches, seat height 17.7 inches).
