Niels O. Møller armchairs

This is the rare armchair model 57, designed in 1959 by Niels Otto Møller and produced by J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik in Denmark. The chair is executed in solid teak with its original black leather upholstery, combining sculptural woodworking with refined material contrast.

The frame is distinguished by its slender and organic lines, with armrests that flow seamlessly into the backrest, displaying Møller’s mastery in shaping wood into fluid, ergonomic forms. The teak shows a warm tone with visible grain, contributing to the chair’s natural depth and character. The leather seat, softly patinated over time, enhances the tactile qualities of the design, balancing durability with comfort.

The condition is excellent vintage with signs of use and a well-preserved patina, both in the teak frame and the leather seat. The chair’s structural integrity remains intact, reflecting the high-quality craftsmanship of J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik, a company established in 1944 that became renowned for producing some of the finest Danish modern furniture, largely centered around Niels Otto Møller’s designs.

Niels Otto Møller (1920–1982) was one of Denmark’s most skilled furniture makers, trained as a cabinetmaker before establishing his own factory. His designs, particularly dining chairs and armchairs, are celebrated for their combination of craftsmanship, elegance, and functional simplicity. Model 57 is among his most iconic armchairs, notable for its sculptural backrest and precise joinery.

This piece is firmly rooted in the Scandinavian mid-century tradition, emphasizing natural materials, ergonomic design, and timeless elegance. The flowing form of the armrests and the understated sophistication of the silhouette place it among the most refined expressions of Danish modern seating.

The dimensions are 58 cm wide, 50 cm deep, and 76 cm high, with a seat height of 45 cm (22.8 x 19.7 x 29.9 inches, SH 17.7 inches).
