Nordisk Solar ceiling lamp
This rare ceiling lamp was produced by Nordisk Solar in Denmark during the 1950s. The design reflects the Scandinavian modern lighting tradition of the mid-century era, combining materials such as brass, cane, and opaline glass to create a fixture that balances elegance and functionality.
The lamp’s structure features a suspended brass frame supporting five individual pendant lights. Each pendant is fitted with a tapered opaline glass shade encased within a brass housing, contributing to a cohesive and refined look. The pendants are evenly spaced and connected by delicate cane-wrapped elements, introducing a natural texture that contrasts with the smooth metal surfaces. The entire fixture is suspended by multiple cords converging at a central ceiling mount, which offers both a light, airy appearance and balanced weight distribution.
Founded in the early 20th century, Nordisk Solar gained a reputation in Denmark for producing high-quality lighting fixtures. The company was known for collaborations with prominent Scandinavian designers and for integrating materials such as brass and opaline glass to achieve soft, diffused illumination in their products.
The lamp is preserved in well-maintained vintage condition. The brass components exhibit a natural patina, consistent with age, while the opaline glass shades remain intact and maintain their original translucent quality, ensuring an even and diffused light output.
The fixture measures 58 cm in diameter and 90 cm in height (22.8 by 35.4 inches), offering a balanced scale suitable for a variety of interior spaces while exemplifying mid-century Scandinavian lighting design.
