Otto Schulz easy chairs
This is a pair of easy chairs designed by Otto Schulz and produced by JIO Möbler in Sweden. The chairs feature frames made from stained beech wood, presenting a rich, warm tone that complements the vivid textile upholstery. The chairs have been newly reupholstered in the classic Golden Lily fabric designed by William Morris, a textile pattern notable for its intricate and densely arranged floral motifs in shades of green, gold, red, and cream set against a deep green background.
The design of the chairs combines a traditional sense of comfort with a slightly modernized form. The backrests are generously rounded and padded, slightly tilted back for an inviting and relaxed seating position. The seats are deep and cushioned, ensuring excellent comfort. The chairs stand on short, curved legs, slightly splayed to enhance stability and provide a dynamic stance. Brass nailhead detailing secures the fabric at the lower edges, adding a decorative element and showcasing the craftsmanship.
Otto Schulz was a German-born designer who became an influential figure in Swedish interior design during the early and mid-20th century. Known for combining luxury materials with robust, traditional forms, Schulz’s work bridged classic and modern sensibilities, often featuring rich upholstery and ornamental details.
The condition of the chairs is good, with minor signs of previous use visible on the wooden legs and frame, which are consistent with the chairs’ age. The upholstery is in excellent, like-new condition due to the recent reupholstering.
The dimensions: width 84 cm (33.1 inches), depth 73 cm (28.7 inches), height 74 cm (29.1 inches), and seat height 43 cm (16.9 inches).
